What is this job really like?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Develop 3D models for structure and marine distributive systems;
  • Prepare production drawings (for shipyard);
  • Provide guidance and advice to junior designers; and
  • Ensure a level of quality control for project work.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in a related discipline including naval architecture, marine systems design or equivalent combination of education and technical training, supplemented with one to two years of design experience in a related discipline;
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings;
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem solve;

What is this job really like?
  • Reporting to the Project Portfolio Manager, you will be accountable for the success of all projects under your supervision;
  • Plan, execute and implement all projects to deliver the intended outcomes;
  • Manage and monitor the progress of your project against cost, time, scope and quality parameters;
  • Act as the main conduit between technical managers, Model Management Team and the client to ensure project activities adhere to defined practices and standards;

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

What is this job really like?
  • Prepare 3D design models for a single discipline or a mixture of structure or marine and distributed systems (mechanical/piping, joiner, HVAC or electrical);
  • Interpret technical, detail design and construction drawings related to structural design and marine and distributed systems;
  • Develop specifications, sketches, requirements, and technical drawings into a 3D model using computer-assisted design (CAD) software;
  • Review drawings to ensure the 3D model and associated deliverables are compliant with specifications and standards;
  • Direct the production of functional and detail design drawings for piping and auxiliary systems;
  • Develop 3D product models for new ship construction projects;
  • Lead technical discussions for project reviews; and
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned that relate to technical leadership and integration of Genoa’s projects.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline including production engineering, industrial design, engineering design, or engineering OR the equivalent combination of education, technical training, and work experience;
  • Minimum of eight years’ production design experience in related discipline, either structure or/and distributed systems or a combination;
  • Experience in a marine production design will be considered an asset;
  • Experience in the use of AutoCad, Ship Constructor, Cadmatic or Foran or other ship design software would be an asset;
  • Experience working within a shipyard would be an asset;
  • Project management experience;
  • Significant leadership and management skills as evidenced by previous work experience;
  • Thorough understanding of quality and continuous improvement;
