What the job is really like
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESINCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Create and modify 3D models, fabrication drawings and drafting support according to project scope for structure and distributive systems;
  • Update drawings from mark-ups and red lines; and
  • Ensure a level of quality control for project work in accordance with Genoa’s quality management system.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
  • Technical diploma in a related discipline (naval architecture, marine engineering systems design; mechanical, HVAC or electrical design) or equivalent combination of education and technical experience;
  • Less than two years of design/drafting experience;
  • 3D design/drafting experience using AutoCAD;
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem solve;
  • Exposure to a shipyard or production environment is an asset; and
  • Knowledge of ShipConstructor, Rhino and Cadmatic would be considered an asset.

What is this job really like?
  • Support the 3D Model Management Team (MMT) and 3D Model Team to resolve discipline-specific technical issues (marine structure and/or mechanical systems);
  • Support shipyard Integrated Project Teams (IPT) on quality and alignment of required inputs to the 3D modeling teams;
  • Confirm availability and quality reviews of technical inputs prior to release to the 3D modeling teams;
  • Assist the MMT with progressive reviews of the 3D model, ensuring quality and scope alignment;
  • Support the design development process (3D model plan) for 3D product models for ship construction;
  • Prepare and deliver formal briefings and lead technical discussions for project reviews;
  • Interpret technical, detail design and construction drawings related to marine structure and/or mechanical systems;
  • Review 3D model and drawings to ensure the model and associated deliverables are compliant with specifications and standards;
  • Facilitate any workshops/meetings to address any issues and/or gaps that exist with structure and/or mechanical systems;
  • Support MMT with the writing of standing orders for the model development for structure and/or mechanical systems; and
  • Responsible for collecting, triaging and distributing model changes to relevant parties as well as supporting engineering with the closing of the Request for Information.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
  • Degree or technical diploma in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of three years of relevant drafting/design experience for structure and/or mechanical systems;
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills;
  • Demonstrate ability to influence stakeholders and work collaboratively;
  • Experience in the use of ShipConstructor, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other ship design software;
  • Knowledge of Lloyd’s and DNV classification systems; and
  • Shipyard experience is highly desirable.
