HMCS Protecteur and HMCS Preserver

Joint Support Ship (JSS):
Advancing Canada’s Naval Fleet

Enhancing Royal Canadian Navy Operations

The Joint Support Ship (JSS), of which at least two vessels will be built, plays a critical role in supporting the Royal Canadian Navy’s task groups whenever they are deployed around the globe. With the JSS, the Navy gains access to essential supplies, including fuel, food, and other operational necessities, allowing for sustained operations. Furthermore, the JSS enhances mission effectiveness across diverse environments, ensuring that Canadian naval forces are equipped for any challenge.

Launch of HMCS Protecteur – A Milestone in Canadian Shipbuilding

On December 13, 2024, the first Joint Support Ship – the HMCS Protecteur – officially launched at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards for the Royal Canadian Navy. This significant milestone marks a remarkable achievement for Canada’s marine and shipbuilding industry, and moreover, highlights the contribution of Genoa Design International. As the longest vessel ever constructed in Canada, the HMCS Protecteur embodies innovation, teamwork, and dedication from all parties involved.

Genoa Design International: 3D Modeling & Production Expertise

Genoa Design is proud to have provided advanced 3D modeling and production design services for the JSS. Additionally, the more than 310 Genoa employees who contributed to the project gained invaluable experience that can be applied to other innovative projects in Canada and the United States. Indeed, this project demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting Canada’s naval and marine industries with cutting-edge design and engineering expertise.

National Shipbuilding Strategy and Coastal Collaboration

Built under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, the HMCS Protecteur demonstrates the importance of fostering a robust marine industrial capability in Canada. In fact, the collaboration between Genoa Design in Newfoundland and Labrador and Seaspan’s shipyards in British Columbia highlights how Canadian companies can innovate coast-to-coast. Consequently, this partnership modernizes the nation’s naval and coast guard fleets, ensuring that Canada remains equipped for future maritime missions.
