About David
David is a retired partner of Grant Thornton LLP and has been in public practice for 35+ years with a broad client base consisting primarily of private companies, not-for-profit organizations, professionals, and trusts and estates. His post-retirement practice mainly involves trust and estate planning, succession planning, strategic planning, and governance.
David is currently on the board of Artistic Fraud of NL- Theatre Company, Bonavista Biennale Inc., and is an executive member of the board of Business and Arts NL. He recently retired as the governor for NL and vice chair of the National Trust for Canada (formerly Heritage Canada Foundation) and continues to sit on the finance and investment committee as an independent member. David was also a volunteer financial and governance advisor to the interim turnaround board of Music NL and was a long-standing member of the executive of the Institute of Corporate Directors – NL Chapter.
In 2022 David was honoured with the Duff-O’Dea Lifetime Achievement Southcott Award by the Newfoundland & Labrador Historic Trust. In addition, he was the 2019 recipient of the Patron of the Arts Award by the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council (Arts NL).
In the private company world, David is an investor and director in various commercial real estate investment companies and was a founding shareholder and long-time director of the successful software development company Celtx Inc., which an American media technology company recently acquired.
David and his wife Karen split their time between Avondale, NL and Montreal, QC.
