On December 13, the first Joint Support Ship (JSS) – HMCS Protecteur officially launched for the Royal Canadian Navy at Vancouver Shipyards, marking a significant achievement for Canada’s marine and shipbuilding industry and for Genoa Design International. As the longest vessel ever constructed in Canada, this ship embodies the dedication, innovation, and teamwork of all those involved.

Genoa Design is proud to have provided 3D modelling and production design services for JSS. The experience gained by the more than 310 Genoa employees who worked on the ship is immeasurable as they have been able to apply skills learned on other innovative projects in Canada and the United States.

The HMCS Protecteur, built under Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, is the latest vessel that demonstrates the importance of growing and fostering a marine industrial capability here at home. It is a remarkable achievement that companies like Genoa Design, with its head office in Newfoundland and Labrador, and Seaspan with shipyards in British Columbia, can collaborate and innovate from coast to coast to modernize the nation’s naval and coast guard fleets.

As Genoa Design celebrates this historic moment, we are already hard at work on the second JSS for the Canadian Navy, as well as the new Polar Icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard. We are continuing our goals to enhance Canada’s readiness to defend its sovereignty, increase access to and protection of the Arctic, and to drive economic development across the country.
