Mount Pearl, NL, October 7, 2026 – Genoa Design International (Genoa), the Digital Ship Experts® and one of North America’s leading detail design and 3D modelling firms for the shipbuilding industry, today announced a multi-year partnership with atlantiq AI, a Canadian technology company pioneering advanced AI systems for the ship design-to-build lifecycle.

Shipbuilding workflows demand accuracy, security and accountability. Over the past year, Genoa and atlantiq AI tested the technology within operational ship design workflows, evaluating its performance against production requirements and shipbuilding standards before expanding its use.

“We spent a year testing and validating this technology within our own work before bringing the partnership forward publicly,” said Laurie Balan, CEO of Genoa Design. “We wanted this announcement to be grounded in demonstrated results. What we have seen gives us confidence that AI can meaningfully improve how ship design work is performed while keeping expert judgment, security and responsible adoption at the centre.”

Following successful validation, the partnership is moving into broader implementation across design operations, where early applications have demonstrated the potential to improve both quality and delivery timelines.

Genoa is contributing thousands of hours from designers, technical specialists and industry experts to help ensure the technology is developed and evaluated within real-world shipbuilding environments.

“Genoa’s experts bring decades of shipbuilding knowledge and an uncompromising commitment to quality,” said Nurul Ibrahim, CEO of atlantiq AI. “Our systems are built to give that expertise greater reach. By taking on information-intensive work and helping teams develop and test design ideas, we want to give their designers and engineers more room to apply their judgment. The opportunity is to bring more of what this industry knows to the vessels we have yet to design.”

Purpose-built for ship design and engineering, the technology helps teams review complex information, identify potential issues, manage design data and produce high-quality deliverables more efficiently. All outputs remain subject to established validation processes and expert oversight, reflecting the level of assurance required in shipbuilding.

For Genoa, the partnership also advances the company’s long-term Digital Ship® vision. By integrating AI into the Digital Ship® platform, Genoa is strengthening the digital thread that carries information from design and construction through operation, sustainment and eventual decommissioning.

“AI-enabled detail and production design is no longer a future concept; it is becoming a practical capability,” said Colin Power, Senior Director of Technology with Genoa. “Our goal is to help establish a trustworthy and secure adoption model that delivers measurable value for Genoa, our customers and the wider shipbuilding industry.”

Genoa and atlantiq AI are participating in DEFSEC 2026 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from October 7-8.
