MusicNL has teamed up with the Landfall Trust of Brigus and Genoa Design International for the second year of the Musician-in-Residence Program.
Congratulations to 2022 Recipient: Nico Paulo
We’re proud to announce Nico Paulo as the 2022 recipient. Nico is a songwriter, performer, and visual artist whose debut in Toronto’s music community quickly gained attention.
She began writing songs in 2014 while experimenting with her singing style. Originally from Portugal, Nico spent seven years in Toronto before relocating to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Today, she performs her solo project and also sings backup and plays percussion for Tim Baker’s band, which toured Canada, the USA, and Europe in 2019–2020.
Her collaborations include artists such as Jenn Grant, Josh Van Tassel, The Fortunate Ones, and Father Christmas.
A Creative Retreat at Kent Cottage, Brigus
This program provides Nico with a two-week residency (August 6–19) at the historic Kent Cottage in Brigus. The rustic, off-the-grid cottage offers a quiet, inspiring setting for songwriting and creative exploration.
During her stay, Nico will be provided with accommodations, food, and supplies, giving her the space and time to focus on her art.
Community Connection Through Music
Beyond her creative retreat, Nico will contribute to the local community. As part of the residency, she will lead a community outreach project—whether a workshop, presentation, or performance—during the Brigus Blueberry Festival, one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most iconic cultural events.
