An Opportunity to Restart an Old Industry

Jessica RocheGenoa News, Genoa Services

North American Shipbuilding has been dangerously lagging other global regions, especially Asia, and particularly China. Geopolitical and environmental pressures are driving both Canada and the U.S. to replace aging assets and expand existing fleets.

Government programs, such as Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and the U.S. Ships for America, are looking to homegrown programs to meet their mandates, creating a new growth cycle in the industry.

The Talent Shortage Challenge

As the market becomes increasingly saturated with new projects, talent struggles to keep pace with demand. A shortage of skilled and experienced workers, both blue-collar and white-collar, is contributing to delays and cost overruns. Insufficient resourcing results in longer project timelines, while higher demand is driving up costs as yards compete for the same resources.

Tackling that Challenge Head On

Genoa emerged from a desire to operate differently from its competitors. It’s in that spirit that we developed our Talent Solutions division. Our solutions to talent challenges are more than just forwarding resumes to clients and letting them build their teams; our unique value proposition reflects that.

Our solutions transcend the traditional supply-demand equation. Our teams are as invested in the success of our clients’ projects as the clients themselves. The people we assign to leadership roles possess the skills and experience necessary to build a winning culture. In the right environment, that culture spreads to other groups and teams within our clients’ projects. In addition to technical competence, they incorporate Genoa’s core values, moving the project forward while valuing people and creating long-term relationships, and always striving to bring the project to the finish line.
